Korea Team’s Profanity Scandal

What began as a strong comeback for “World of Street Woman Fighter” (Season 3 of “Street Woman Fighter”, also known as “SWF3”) has taken a sharp turn as Korean dancers Honey J and Aiki found themselves in hot water over a profanity-laced reaction video. In particular, on June 21, a behind-the-scenes YouTube clip showing the two using vulgar language while watching the premiere episode went viral, sparking widespread criticism and disappointment.

In the now-deleted video uploaded on the personal YouTube channel “Today’s HyojinChoi”, Honey J commented on another dancer’s performance, saying, “Is that even dancing, you f*king [slur]?” Meanwhile, Aiki was caught exclaiming, “You f*king b****!” as a reaction to a scene. Although the video was promptly taken down, the clips had already circulated across social media and forums, drawing fire for inappropriate behavior and damaging the show’s image, particularly for Team Korea.

After an influx of complaints in the comment section, the video was deleted just two hours after it was posted. However, the clip had already spread beyond Korea, drawing heavy criticism from international fandoms as well.

The controversy has sparked a larger debate about professionalism, respect among performers, and the boundaries of reality TV content.

Honey J’s Apology

On June 22, Honey J addressed the controversy through a heartfelt apology shared on her Instagram account, accompanied by a black background image.

“I sincerely apologize to anyone hurt or disappointed by my careless words in the video uploaded last night”, the dancer wrote, before explaining that the video was filmed in a casual setting where team members had gathered to watch the premiere together. Overcome with emotion, she admitted to overreacting and speaking harshly in the heat of the moment.

“I immersed myself in the moment and directed an excessive reaction toward a competing dancer. It was thoughtless of me”, Honey J also wrote, adding that she personally reached out to the dancer involved to apologize, and the dancer accepted her apology with grace.

She then concluded by claiming to take full responsibility and promising to be more cautious in the future, saying, “I take full responsibility for failing to realize the weight of my words. This has taught me how impactful even a single word can be. I will not repeat this mistake.”

Aiki’s Apology

Almost simultaneously, Aiki issued her own apology, also posting a black image with a written statement.

“This is Aiki. I sincerely apologize to anyone who felt uncomfortable due to the emotional and intense language I used in a recently released reaction video”, the female dancer stated before acknowledging that her passion for the performances caused her to become overly emotional but recognized that such reactions must not hurt others.

Aiki also extended her apologies to the opposing crew and vowed, “From now on, I will communicate with more sensitivity regardless of the situation.”

Mixed Public Reaction

The incident comes as SWF3’s “BUMSUP” mission video surpassed 10 million views, riding high in popularity. However, the scandal has somewhat dampened public enthusiasm. Netizens voiced frustration, calling the behavior “immature”, “disappointing”, and “unprofessional,” with many questioning why the clip was uploaded at all without editing.

Some comments included, “Why would they post that unedited?” and “This is a disgrace for the Korean team.” However, there were also those who accepted the apologies and chose to show continued support, acknowledging the sincerity in both dancers’ statements.
